Summary
As the president of the University of Minnesota, I am focused on prioritizing an accessible, world-class education for students and advancing the University’s powerful mission to enhance the health, safety and prosperity of people across the state, nation, and world.
I joined the University of Michigan in 1999 as an emergency medicine physician, with faculty appointments in the Medical School and the School of Public Health. Over the course of my career, my research has focused on public health and injury and violence prevention, with scientific collaborations that span engineering, communications, transportation, and public policy. In 2019, I was elected to the National Academy of Medicine. And in 2023, Crain’s Detroit Business recognized Dr. Cunningham as a “Notable Leader in Higher Education.”
I joined the University of Minnesota in 2024 as system-wide president.
