Summary
I am a population health scientist, with a focus on public health research on firearm injury prevention, health disparities, and social determinants of health. Prior to returning to academia, I worked as a data scientist/data warehouse consultant in Germany and the United States. In my research, I apply both quantitative and qualitative methods, data science tools, and data visualization. Before my research focus related to firearm injuries and gun violence, I worked on cancer survivorship research. In my public health research to date, I have studied associations of social determinants of health with gun violence, adolescent suicidal behaviors, rural-urban patterns in U.S.-wide racial arrest disparities, and gun culture in the United States. In partnership with Minnesota gun violence prevention advocates and organizations I worked on an intervention to reduce firearm suicide in Minnesota. I work closely with community and medical organizations, including Protect Minnesota and the Minnesota Medical Association.
