Summary

As a social epidemiologist and population health scientist, my research employs advanced quantitative methods, novel combinations of cohort and policy data, and interdisciplinary perspectives to investigate how place-based factors shape health and health inequities. My current work follows three primary lines: First, I work to improve estimates of homeless mortality rates across the U.S. and identify how local policies drive mortality among the unhoused population. Second, I evaluate the health impact of policies that target people with criminal records and make it harder to obtain employment, access public benefits, apply for public housing, and more. Third, my research models the sociodemographic and spatial patterning of mortality before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
